Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion at work means diversity in race, gender, age, disability and religion. Work, remains the single most important part in an employee’s life, after family. A person spends an approximate 8-10 hours either at work or planning for it. And unless he/she does not see or perceive value or feels connected at work, earning one’s livelihood becomes a chore best forgotten. As the world population ages and globalization connects our economic worlds even closer, the need for embracing diversity becomes more and more important if organisation’s are to attract the best talent pool.
Diversity and Inclusion applies to and should involve all members of the organisation. Not merely in the HR handbook provided to each employee but it should also become an equal part of every policy, program and organizational culture. An organisation’s success would be evident when an employee’s similarities or differences are valued and in turn he/she feels meaningfully connected to the mission of the organisation through work.
We believe Diversity and Inclusion is not something an organisation can achieve in days, weeks or months. It’s a journey that will take place over a long period of time. As organisation’s increase their awareness and level of accountability, to embrace diversity and inclusion, the process will naturally evolve and become more integrated as part of day to day business. And we will see diverse individuals assume increasingly greater levels of accountability both horizontally and vertically.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others ” . Nelson Mandela
